Edo Assembly backs State Police constitutional alteration bill

The Edo State House of Assembly has unanimously voted successful enactment of the State Police law alteration measure arsenic passed by the National Assembly.

DAILY POST reports that the House approved and voted successful enactment of the measure connected Wednesday, September 23, 2026, during plenary.

The Speaker of the House, Hon. Yekini Idaiye, earlier members voted successful enactment of the bill, informed them that the alteration measure was transmitted to the House by the National Assembly connected September 16, 2026.

According to him, the National Assembly transmitted a measure seeking to change the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, arsenic amended, to supply for the constitution of State Police Services and related matters.

“The measure for the State Police law alteration measure was transmitted to the Houses of Assembly of the 36 states connected September 16 for information and approval,” helium said.

Presenting the measure for deliberation, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Sunny Ojiezele, who highlighted the value of the bill, noted that it would assistance combat insecurity successful the country.
