Elections in 2023: Kwankwaso’s NNPP Calls For Cancellation With PDP, LP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party have joined the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in requesting that the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections be called off.
A new election should be held as quickly as feasible, the party urged in a press conference on Friday.
“We must be conscious that, regardless of the circumstances in our nation, all leaders must place the stability and security of the nation as their top priority. Our nation is larger and unquestionably more significant than any single person or special interest.
The current election results must not be accepted by Nigerians and by all allies of Nigeria if we are to rescue our democracy and our nation. As a result, we are urging the nationwide cancellation of the 2023 presidential election and the urgent postponement of results announcement.
Prof. Rufai Alkali, the party’s national chairman, stated that a new election should be held as soon as feasible.
The Independent National Electoral Commission was accused by the NNPP of a number of things regarding the way the election was handled, including “a purposeful undermining of the NNPP by INEC.”
Additional justifications offered by the NNPP for the INEC’s decision to call off the poll include President Muhammadu Buhari and others showing their ballots after casting their votes, which the party claimed to be a form of campaigning on election day. Also, they bemoaned voter intimidation, vote fraud, BVAS malfunction and overvoting, “INEC lies concerning iRev server,” and violence.
Ifeanyi Okowa, vice presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Datti Baba-Ahmed, vice presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), had earlier called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to call off the elections on Saturday in a joint press conference.
