Visitors from the Commonwealth to INEC are hopeful for credible elections.

Five days prior to the start of the country’s general elections, the Commonwealth Observation Mission in Nigeria paid a visit to the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).

Former South African President and mission chief Thabo Mbeki met with INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu and a few National Commissioners on Monday in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.

According to Channels Television, the mission is in Nigeria as part of the foreign observation teams that will watch the country’s presidential and national assembly elections on February 25.

The expedition will be monitoring Nigeria’s seventh election this time around.

The former president of South Africa stated that the visit was made because Nigeria is a crucial nation for the Commonwealth.

The delegation’s leader is optimistic that the elections will be fair, trustworthy, and peaceful.

He added that the delegation would have the chance to ask questions and learn more about the electoral umpire’s preparations at the meeting.

He stated that the mission would compile a report based on their findings and might include recommendations as well.

Yakubu emphasizes the value INEC places on the earlier observations made by the Commonwealth Observation Mission. He clarified that some of the earlier proposals have resulted in advancements, such as the commission’s present-day expansion of the use of technologies.

The INEC Chairman reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to holding a free, fair, and credible election.
