CBN Discusses Hiring and Requests BVN
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dissociated itself from a popular online job board that claimed to be conducting hiring on the bank’s behalf.
The CBN stated on Thursday that the apex bank is not currently hiring in a statement by its Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Isa AbdulMumin.
It went on to say that the fake portal also requests applicants’ Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs) for the aforementioned recruitment, and it cautioned the public not to fall for the scammers operating the fake recruitment.
AdbdulMumin claims that the portal is one of many being utilized by bogus recruitment agencies in an effort to defraud qualified candidates, particularly
“The fraudulent website lists eligibility requirements that, among other requirements, mention having a Bank Verification Number (BVN). The application portal continues to state that applicants with physical disabilities are ineligible.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the CBN is not currently conducting any general recruitment exercise and will never request the BVN of intending applicants or engage in prejudice against people who are physically disabled.
“As a result, the general public is hereby cautioned to be on the lookout for dishonest recruitment agents determined to exploit the employment challenge to defraud qualified applicants, particularly young graduates. Please heed this guidance,” the statement said.
