LG Elections Are Moved to January 18, 2025 by Ondo
The 203 wards and 18 local government areas in the state will hold elections on January 18, 2025, according to a statement from the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC).
At a stakeholder meeting held at the Commission’s headquarters in Akure, the state capital, Dr. Joseph Aremo, the chairman of the commission, revealed the revised date.
The elections were then postponed indefinitely after being originally slated to take place on July 13, 2024.
Dr. Aremo claims that because political parties disregarded the rules and procedures of the election, the polls were delayed rather than cancelled.
Aremo clarified that the commission had become weary of constantly postponing, which is why the polls had to be postponed.
He gave the state’s citizens assurances that ODIEC was prepared to hold free, fair, and credible elections and that the process would be transparent.
He asked the political parties that held primaries prior to the postponement to send the commission the verified list of candidates.
He went on to describe the ongoing preparations for the elections, mentioning that the political parties’ primaries will be concluded and the candidates will be verified between November 25 and December 7, 2024.
Additionally, he stated that the deadline for submitting forms for candidate particulars and political party lists is December 9 of this year.
Aremo went on to say that political parties would be substituting candidates between December 12 and December 13, and that nomination forms will be collected and submitted between December 16 and December 18.
Political party campaigns, according to Jim, will begin on December 23 and conclude at midnight on January 16, 2025.
The chairman also announced that non-sensitive items would be sent to the 18 local governments between January 6, 2025, and January 10, 2025.
Olaoluwa Adesanya, the chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council’s (IPAC) Ondo State chapter, expressed his pleasure with the ODIEC chairman’s presentation regarding the commission’s election preparations.
He pledges that the political parties would work with ODIEC to make sure the elections are conducted smoothly.
