Odegaard of Arsenal is expected to miss important Premier League games.
The Norwegian team doctor has stated that Martin Odegaard’s ankle injury is likely to keep him out of Arsenal’s Premier League matches against Tottenham and Manchester City as well as the beginning of the Champions League.
After being injured during a challenge by Christoph Baumgartner of Austria during Norway’s 2-1 Nations League victory against Austria in Oslo on Monday, the Gunners captain underwent an MRI scan.
It usually takes at least three weeks for this kind of ankle injury to heal. Anything less is merely advantageous. Ola Sand, the national team physician, told the VG newspaper on Wednesday that “it may take longer.”
The runners-up in the Premier League last season, Arsenal, will play their first Champions League game against Atalanta the following week after playing Tottenham in the north London derby on Sunday.
On September 22, they take on Premier League winners Manchester City, and on October 1, they have a fascinating matchup with Paris Saint-Germain in Europe.
Norway’s next Nations League games are scheduled for October 10 in Oslo versus Slovenia and Linz, Austria, three days later.
“It’s sensitive, and Staale (the coach) knows it as well,” Sand remarked.
“It is possible that he will play in Norway’s upcoming matches, but we will have to wait and see how the MRI turns out and how quickly he responds to treatment.”
The MRI pictures were still being examined, according to Sand, even though there was “no suspicion of a fracture.”
