Ancelloti predicted an improvement before their Copa del Rey final match against Osasuna and the Champions League semi-final matchup against Manchester City after witnessing his team disintegrate.

The Italian added after the thumping, “It’s tough because losing has to be tough.”

“Defense was a weakness in the game. And that was crucial because, especially in the beginning, we played well on the ball.

However, we struggled in the duels since we were caught in two counterattacks, which made things more challenging.

“We apologize; I realize the fans are upset.

“We are hurt as well. However, the supporters are aware that we will be fine in both the cup final and the semifinal (versus City).

“It’s harder to say now, but Madrid does not represent in this game. We’re sorry, but we have to move on.

If league-leading Barcelona wins away at Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday, the Los Blancos might fall 14 points behind and see their prospects of winning the championship diminish.
