As the IGP orders an investigation into a student’s death in Kwara, three officers are arrested.
The Homicide section of the Force Criminal Investigation Dept (FCID) in Abuja has been directed by Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun to initiate a thorough and in-depth investigation into the purported killing of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a student at Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin, Kwara State.
September 4, 2024, saw the death of Abdulyekeen.
The officers involved in the incident have been identified as Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Emmanuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip, all of whom are attached to the Department of Operations, Kwara State Command. As a result, they have been detained for investigation, according to a statement released on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi.
Adejobi remarked that the tragic incident resulting in the death of a young Nigerian has the Inspector-General of Police “deeply saddened.”
“The IGP extends his sincere condolences to the deceased’s friends, family, and coworkers. Part of the statement said, “He assures the family and members of the public that justice will be served and acknowledges the profound grief and loss caused by this unfortunate act.”
Abdulyekeen, a National Diploma 2 Electrical/Electronics Engineering student at the university, was purportedly murdered by the police in the state capital of Ilorin’s Fate Area under suspicious circumstances.
