Bola Ahmed Tinubu and FEC lament Diya

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the incoming president, and the Federal Executive Council, or FEC, have expressed their condolences to the family of Lt. General Oladipo Diya, the former chief of general staff, who passed away on Sunday morning.

General Diya, who was 79 years old, died early on Sunday, according to his son Sinmi.

Before taking over as Chief of General Staff in 1993 as the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha’s deputy, Diya held a number of military positions, including military governor of his native Ogun State.

In a statement by Tunde Rahman, Tinubu expressed his sorrow over the retired general’s passing while also praising his contributions to the military establishment and to national development.

“I was shocked to learn of General Oladipo Diya’s passing early this morning. My deepest condolences and sympathies go out to his spouse and children as well as his immediate family.

“General Diya led a remarkable life as a soldier and distinguished himself in the military, where he devotedly served our nation. He served honorably as the Military Governor of Ogun State and in the other military positions he held before rising to the prestigious position of Chief of General Staff, second in command to the Head of State.

“I offer my condolences to Ogun State’s residents, including Governor Dapo Abiodun.

I ask Allah, the Most Gracious, to comfort his family and everyone he left behind. He prayed, “May God Almighty grant his soul eternal rest.

On behalf of the Federal Executive Council FEC, Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, stated that he was shocked to learn of Gen. Diya’s passing.
According to Mustapha, General Diya was a seasoned military officer with commendable administrative skills in his various roles as the Military Governor, Chief of Defence Staff, and later, Chief of General Staff, according to Willie Bassey, Director of Information in the Office of the SGF.

He described Diya as a notable statesman who made significant contributions to the development of the country.

“FEC extends its condolences to the Ogun State government and people, as well as to the deceased’s family and friends, and prays to God to grant the deceased’s soul eternal rest,” he said.
