Borno provides free medications to public hospitals.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has instructed the state ministry of health to release N300 million worth of medications and other medical supplies to public hospitals for free distribution to patients in an effort to lessen the financial hardship that results from the lack of both new and old naira notes.

Professor Mohammed Alhaji, the commissioner of health and human services, revealed this while introducing the medications at the outlets run by his ministry on Baga Road in Maiduguri.

Medicines for common ailments, kits for pregnancy delivery, and other necessities for healthcare were included in the packages.

In order to get their allotments for the prompt deployment of the medications and other supplies, the commissioner instructed medical directors and principal medical officers of public healthcare centers in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere to rapidly file procedural papers.

Arab emphasized that patients who lack the means to pay for their care or who have trouble accessing their cash should be offered free medication.

According to Zulum, “while we know some people may have money and still seek free drugs by saying they lack funds, we cannot, because of some dishonest people, refuse to help those in need.” He stated officials would rely on patients to be honest.

Arab praised Governor Zulum on behalf of the state’s medical staff for once again stepping in to help people during a time of need, calling the action humane.

In their response, the chief medical officers and medical directors of public hospitals acknowledged their appreciation for Governor Zulum’s kindness.

Dr. Baba Shehu Mohammed, the State Specialty Hospital’s medical director, claimed on their behalf that they were happier than the patients because they typically experience agony when they see individuals unable to pay for diagnoses or purchase medications after being prescribed them.
