2023 Election

Buhari returns from Qatar and arrives in Daura for the governorship election.

President Muhammadu Buhari returned to Nigeria on Wednesday after a four-day trip to Doha, Qatar, to attend the 5th United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries, or LCDs.

According to Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President, the Nigerian leader arrived in Katsina at 4.50 p.m. The State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, and his cabinet members were on hand to greet the President at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport. He then took a helicopter to his hometown of Daura.

The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Faruk, and the Emirate Council greeted the President at the helipad.

President Buhari will stay in Daura until the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections take place this weekend.

Buhari took advantage of his trip to Doha to attend the United Nations conference, where he, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and other world leaders mobilized political will, solidarity, and actions to transform LCDs by finding long-term solutions to challenges such as poverty, food insecurity, hunger, poor infrastructure, inadequate health care, and climate change, among others.

He also strengthened ties with foreign leaders and promoted the country’s regional and global engagements. He also had meetings with Nigerian professionals in Qatar.
