In a match that was disrupted by cramping for the Spaniard, world number one Novak Djokovic defeated Carlos Alcaraz to go to the French Open final.

On Sunday, Djokovic will compete against Casper Ruud, who defeated Alexander Zverev.

The Serb, who was going for a record-breaking 23rd men’s major victory, profited from an injury to Alcaraz early in the third to win 6-3 5-7 6-1 6-1.

After the game, Djokovic expressed his sympathy for Alcaraz’s injuries.

“I must tell Carlos good luck. Cramps and physical issues in the latter stages of a Grand Slam are the very last thing you want at this level. I’m sorry for him, and I’m hoping he’ll get better quickly so he can return.

I told him online that he is aware of how young he is, that he has a long future ahead of him, and that he will repeatedly win this competition. He is a fantastic player, very competitive, and a really good person. He deserves all of the praise and encouragement.

It must be difficult for him to be torn between retiring and continuing, but for finishing the manner he did, we applaud him for his perseverance. Really appreciate that,” Djokovic remarked.

In the second semi-final, fourth-seeded Norwegian Ruud, who fell to Rafael Nadal in the championship match last year, defeated German 22nd seed Zverev 6-3 6-4 6-0.

After suffering a catastrophic ankle injury on the court at the same level a year prior, the 26-year-old Zverev returned to the semi-finals, but the 24-year-old Ruud easily defeated him.

Ruud, who also lost to Alcaraz in the US Open final last year, will try to capture his first major championship at the third attempt.
