Enugu polls favor the Labour Party

Except for the Enugu West Senatorial District, where Mr. Osita Ngwu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was proclaimed the winner for the Senate slot, the Labour Party won every presidential and national assembly election held in Enugu State last Saturday.

Nevertheless, due to the death of the LP candidate, Oyibo Chukwu, who was killed two days prior to the election, the Enugu East Senatorial District was not conducted.

In the presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi received 428,640 votes, beating out the PDP with 15,749 votes, the APC with 4,772 votes, the APGA with 1,548 votes, and the NNPP with 1,808.

According to Prof. Madu Iwe, the Enugu State Collation Officer, there were 482,990 accredited voters for the election, out of the 2,112,793 registered voters in the state.

By LP, Ugwuanyi is beaten

According to the National Assembly results, Chief Okey Ezea of the LP defeated Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the PDP in the Enugu North Senatorial district. Ezea received 104,492 votes to Ugwuanyi’s 46,948.

Prof. Paul Nnamchi of Enugu East/Isi-Uzo federal constituency, Mr. Sam Atu of Enugu North/Enugu South federal constituency, and Mr. Dennis Agbo of Udenu/Igboeze north federal constituency are among the Labour Party candidates who gained seats in the House of Representatives.

Others are Mr. Sunday Umeha of Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, Chidi Obetta of Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency, Chijioke Nwodo of Igbo Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency, Chijioke Okereke of Oji River/Agwu/Aninri Federal Constituency, and Chijioke Nwodo.
