Governor Abdulrazaq of Kwara becomes the new NGF Chairman

The Kwara State governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has been chosen to lead the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) as its new chairman.

He took over for Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, whose term was set to expire on May 29.

 

This was said in a statement issued by Tambuwal during the seventh emergency meeting of state governors, which took place on Tuesday night in Abuja.

According to information obtained, Governor Abdulrazaq was elected by consensus, while Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, was picked as the forum’s vice chairman.

“On the leadership of the Forum, the Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, emerged the new Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum through a consensus, and the Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde is now the vice chairman,” the communiqué said in part.

Members expressed their satisfaction with the accomplishment of the recently completed induction for new and returning governors, which took place between May 14 and May 19, 2023.

“Members dedicated to sustaining state-level cooperation through improved peer review, learning at the local level, and strengthening ties with the federal government and other institutions.

The Hon. Minister of Finance has agreed to the Forum’s request to immediately halt further deductions from state accounts to satisfy Local Government Councils London Paris Club obligations and to repay the states for any money already withheld, the Chairman of the Forum informed the members.
