Gunmen storm the Anambra Council Secretariat, setting fire to cars.
Yesterday morning, gunmen suspected of being affiliated to separatist organizations assaulted the Ogbaru Local Government Area secretariat in Anambra State, setting fire to around six vehicles.
Social media videos showed multiple automobiles smoking in the fire on the secretariat’s premises.
Police in Anambra State confirmed the attack, calling it a terrible act.
According to the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State Police Command, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, just four vigilante operatives’ vehicles were destroyed.
He stated that the attack, which destroyed four vigilante patrol cars, was a cowardly crime. Interestingly, there were no casualties.
“Preliminary evidence indicates that the gunmen, who arrived in huge numbers on motorcycles and in a truck, began firing randomly. However, they encountered stiff resistance from the vigilantes until the police response squad arrived.

“Due to the security forces’ superior firepower, the gunmen escaped. Unfortunately, four operating cars of security personnel were enveloped in flames and seriously destroyed.
“In reaction to this occurrence, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations dispatched a joint security team comprising the Army, Navy, and other security agencies to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. Ongoing offensive operations are being carried out to apprehend the perpetrators.
“The public is assured of continued and strengthened collaboration in the fight against criminal elements in the state,” the statement read, praising the security personnel for their bravery.
