Harris and Biden will hike for the first time since their switch.
Next week, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will embark on their first combined campaign trip since the US president unexpectedly decided to withdraw from the 2024 presidential contest against Donald Trump.
In an effort to strengthen his reputation in his last months in office and lend support to the newly formed Democratic ticket, Biden and his vice president will be present on August 15 at an event in the Maryland state of Maryland, which is close to Washington.
The White House said in a statement on Friday that the two would “discuss the progress they are making to lower costs for the American people” and that more information would be made available later.
A weak point for Democrats in the run-up to the election in November is inflation.
Since Biden declared he was resigning after a catastrophic debate against Trump that exposed doubts about his age and mental capacity, Harris has energized the Democratic Party.
In addition to holding a number of sold-out events and raising record amounts of money, the first female, Black, and South Asian vice president in US history has also erased Republican former President Trump’s advantage in polls.
With over six months remaining until his successor takes office in January, Biden, on the other hand, has maintained a low profile and made few public appearances during what has turned into a lame duck presidency.
The president was not anticipated to make any significant political appearances in support of Harris until the Democratic National Convention, which begins in Chicago on August 19. The president is now enjoying a long weekend at his beach property in Delaware.
However, there have also been indications that the seasoned Democrat, who is getting ready to retire from US politics after almost five decades, is eager to further his legacy.

A portion of that involves him using all of his effort to ensure Harris’s triumph against Trump, his rival and the candidate he defeated in the 2020 election.
When US reporter Evan Gershkovich and other prisoners released in a massive prisoner swap with Russia were welcomed home last week, Harris was a prominent figure by Biden’s side in a historic moment.
Politico, a news outlet, revealed that Harris was now seeking Biden’s assistance in battleground states like Pennsylvania and Michigan, where he remains popular, particularly with white voters who are older.
However, it stated that he would make sure Harris remained in the public eye by primarily starting a light campaign program in the fall.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, Biden filled the void by cautioning against a recurrence of the events that followed the 2020 election, when Trump contested his defeat and his supporters flooded the US capital.
In his first interview after withdrawing from the race, Biden expressed to broadcaster CBS his “lack of confidence” in a peaceful handover of power in the event that Trump suffers a second defeat.
Another goal for Biden’s final days in office is to press for an end to the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, a topic that continues to divide Democrats.
On August 15, the day of his simultaneous appearance with Harris, Biden, the governments of Egypt and Qatar, and the opposing parties have extended an invitation to recommence negotiations in an effort to broker a settlement.
