In Katsina, Police Arrest 14 Suspects, Recover ₦1.8m, and Other Exhibits

Fourteen people have been taken into custody by Katsina State Command operations for a variety of offenses, including theft, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other connected crimes.

This information was released on Wednesday during a press conference in Katsina, the state capital, by the Command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq.

He claimed that Aliyu Abubakar Musa, the state’s commissioner of police, promptly assembled a group of agents to look into the incident and apprehend the offenders.

He claimed that the first case involved the arrest of a six-person gang of infamous armed robbers who were terrorizing the Filin Polo Quarters in the State and its surroundings. The gang was apprehended after a number of reports about their illicit activities were received.

After a sting operation, the suspects—all residents of Katsina Metropolis’ Filin Polo Quarters—were taken into custody.

They are identified as 23-year-old Ismail Hamza “m,” also known as Dawale, 20-year-old Umar Faruq Aliyu “m,” also known as Lauya, 19-year-old Yasir JAmilu “m,” also known as Kwame, 20-year-old Abu Safiyanu “m,” also known as Gije, 20-year-old Murtala Abubakar “m,” also known as Muri, and 25-year-old Bello Yusuf, alias Yellow “m.”

Without hesitation, the crew moved to disrupt the suspected known armed robbers who were terrorizing the Filin Polo sections of Katsina metro, Katsina State. They were able to bust a 6-man syndicate.

“On July 30, 2024, at approximately 0220 hours, the suspects, brandishing deadly weapons like knives and cutlasses, plotted and broke into the residence of Muntari Usman, 45, located in the Filin Polo quarters. They assaulted and stole the amount of one million eight hundred and fifty thousand naira (₦1,850,000.00).”

Likewise, the syndicate illegally planned to break into the homes of Badiya Mansur, a woman in her 20s, and Fatima Mohammed, a woman in her 40s, on August 11, 2024, at approximately 0200 hours, with the help of one Dan Bichi, who is currently at large. They stole one sheep, one Ram, valued at two hundred and twenty thousand naira (N220,000.00).

Additionally, at approximately 0230 hours on the same day, the syndicate broke into the 44-year-old Fatima Mohammed’s home and took two phones—a Techno keypad worth N15,000 and an Infinix worth N50,000—from her.

“During the course of the inquiry, the suspects admitted to committing the crime and identified two accomplices: one Sa’idu, who is currently at large, and one Bello Yusuf, also known as Yellow, who served as their accountant.

As evidence from the suspects, two (2) sheep, one (1) Ram, and one million eight hundred and fifty thousand naira (₦1,850,000.00) were found. In order to apprehend the fugitive suspect, investigations are still on.
