Lagos government closes another well-known supermarket due to spoiled goods
The Lagos State Government closed down a well-known store, Chimezie Store, on Wednesday for allegedly selling the general public expired goods. Chimezie Store is located at No. 19 Ogundana Street, off Allen Avenue, in Ikeja.
According to information obtained, the store was shut down as part of a sting operation as part of the state’s ongoing zero tolerance policy for unwholesome goods.
Recall that the agency sealed two large supermarkets less than a month ago after discovering that they were selling expired goods on their shelves at GRA, Ikeja.
Officials from LASCOPA, the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, stormed the grocery store in the most recent operation and found the expired goods.
In order to prevent further sales of the products to the general public, LASCOPA officials immediately sealed the store’s premises after learning about the products.
In a brief statement issued by LASCOPA, General Manager Afolabi Solebo confirmed that expired goods were found and removed from the store during an inspection exercise conducted by the agency’s Monitoring and Enforcement team.
Solebo issued a warning to supermarkets and grocery stores throughout the state to stop selling unwholesome goods or face the full force of the law.
