The 203 wards and 18 local government areas in the state will hold elections on January 18, 2025, according to a statement from the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC).

At a stakeholder meeting held at the Commission’s headquarters in Akure, the state capital, Dr. Joseph Aremo, the chairman of the commission, revealed the revised date.

The elections were then postponed indefinitely after being originally slated to take place on July 13, 2024.

Dr. Aremo claims that because political parties disregarded the rules and procedures of the election, the polls were delayed rather than cancelled.

Aremo clarified that the commission had become weary of constantly postponing, which is why the polls had to be postponed.

He gave the state’s citizens assurances that ODIEC was prepared to hold free, fair, and credible elections and that the process would be transparent.
