New Naira: Adeleke advises banks to quit hoarding and not incite revolt.

The governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has cautioned commercial banks doing business there against stockpiling fresh naira notes and shunning old money.

According to a statement issued by Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokeswoman, and acquired in Osogbo on Wednesday, Adeleke also bemoaned the suffering Nigerians were forced to endure due to the naira’s depreciation.

The banks were urged to show compassion by either making the new notes available or by continuing to accept the old currency notes by Adeleke, who bemoaned the non-acceptance of the old currency.

Parts of the statement continued, “I am pained by the current suffering perpetrated on our people. Daily life has turned into a nightmare. Numerous hardships are being experienced by all facets of society. I implore bank presidents to show charity to the rich, middle class, and even the destitute.

“Either the new naira notes are made available or the old ones are accepted. Even when citizens are sinless, we must stop penalizing them. I today issue a compassionate warning to the banks in Osun state. Through unfair policies and behaviors, we shouldn’t incite civilians to rebel against the government.

“Banks in the state of Osun must satiate public demand for fresh currency. The banks who stopped accepting old notes must change their minds. The wall is being reached by our people.
