As he begins a hiring drive to outfit Newcastle for the Champions League, Eddie Howe declares that he would focus on quality rather than quantity.

With a goalless draw against Premier League underachievers Leicester on Monday, the Magpies secured a spot in the top four and a return to the premier club tournament in Europe.

New demands will be placed on the team as a result. The squad has been strengthened by an investment of more than £250 million ($310 million) since the club’s Saudi-backed owners assumed control in October 2021.

However, manager Howe, who has received plaudits for his signings, promised that there wouldn’t be any extravagant expenditure as he continues to search for smart additions.

“I think we’ve been really, really good in the three transfer windows so far since I’ve been here,” he said to reporters.

“The battle gets tougher and harder because there are fewer players who would make us better now that we’ve improved as a club, so there’s going to be a large window for us.

“I don’t think it can be big numbers; it won’t be. We’ll need to be wise since we lack the resources to spend the money that people will assume we have.

A tiny number of players will be involved, but maybe they can make a difference.

Just 19 months after the owners purchased the relegation-threatened team, Newcastle achieved a monumental feat by making it to the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

Howe stated, “We’re about to enter a really difficult competition, but it’s the finest competition you can be in. I don’t think the achievement can be underrated.

It’s a really challenging task. It’s really difficult to break the top four’s stranglehold, so I believe it’s a huge accomplishment for us, and we’re looking forward to what it means.
