NiMet Issues a 3-day Thunderstorm and Nationwide Rain Alert

Thunderstorms and rain are expected across the nation from Wednesday to Friday, according to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

NiMet stated in its weather outlook on Tuesday that thunderstorms are predicted to occur early on Wednesday over sections of Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna States.

NiMet reports that in the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are predicted over portions of the states of Jigawa, Borno, Katsina, Adamawa, Kaduna, Taraba, Zamfara, and Kebbi.

Thunderstorms are predicted to pass over portions of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Niger states in the morning hours in the North Central region.

Thunderstorms are predicted to pass over portions of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara States later in the day.

It stated, “Thunderstorms are predicted to occur during the morning hours over portions of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States in the southern region.”

Later in the day, it said, there would be sporadic showers in areas of Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Rivers, and Cross River, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States.

In the northern region, thunderstorms are predicted to pass over portions of Taraba and Adamawa States in the early morning hours.

Later in the day, thunderstorms are once more predicted over portions of Taraba, Adamawa, Jigawa, Katsina, Kaduna, Bauchi, and Kano states.

Rain is predicted to fall in the morning hours over portions of the Plateau and Benue States in the North Central area.

Thunderstorms are predicted to pass over portions of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, Kwara, and Benue States in the afternoon and evening.

It stated, “Intermittent rains are predicted in the southern cites over portions of Enugu and Anambra States during the morning hours.”

In locations where thunderstorms are likely to occur, strong winds may precede the rain, according to NiMet, which also advises the public to take appropriate safety precautions and heed any recommendations issued by pertinent authorities.

It stated, “For efficient planning in their operations, airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet.”

Towards the end of the day, NiMet predicted sporadic showers in areas of Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta States.

Additionally, the agency projected that on Friday morning, thunderstorms would pass over portions of Taraba and Adamawa States in the northern region.

Later in the day, thunderstorms were predicted to pass over portions of the states of Taraba, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, and Zamfara.

NiMet reports that rain is predicted for the North Central area during the morning hours over portions of Nasarawa and Niger.

Localized thunderstorms are predicted to occur later in the day across portions of Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and the Niger States.

“Cloudy skies are predicted for the morning hours in the cities in the south. It stated that thunderstorms are predicted for later in the day across inland towns, with the possibility of sporadic rain over coastal cities.

It advised people to stay away from regions that are prone to flooding because heavy downpours increase the risk of urban flooding in large cities.
