OdumoduBlvck, Bayanni, Eltee Skhillz, and Others Nominated for Rookie of the Year in the 16th Headies

The 16th Headies Rookie of the Year nominees were revealed on Tuesday, and an intriguing field of artists will compete for the honor.

The Headies Academy announced the six artists nominated for the prize via social media. They include OdumoduBlvck, most known for the popular song “Declan Rice,” which is named for the captain of West Ham United.

Eltee Skhillz, who is renowned for his hyped performance on the song ODG, and singer Bayanni, a Mavin Record signee and the creator of the viral hit Tata and its remix with American artist Jason Derulo, are also up for the award.

Khaid, the performer behind hits like “Carry Me” (with Boy Spyce) and “Jolie,” has joined them. Guchi, best known for “The Colour Purple,” “Speedometer,” and alternative singer Bloody Civilian, best known for her viral song “I Don’t Like You,” are both contenders for Rookie of the Year.

The six artists up for Rookie of the Year each had a breakout year even though they didn’t release an album during the year in question.

The Headies Awards, which were established in 2006, honor great accomplishments in the Nigerian music businesses. The award event, which is met with hype, great expectation, and heated takes, comprises performances by prominent musicians and up-and-coming artists.

The 16th edition’s nomination period began on May 22 and closed on June 16 this year.

On the basis of songs released between January 2022 and March 2023, nominees are chosen for the awards.

This year’s International Artiste of the Year category, which includes a nominated list of non-African artists or groups who have had the greatest influence on Afrobeats, was established.

The category includes nominees such as Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Ed Sheeran, Drake, and Nas.
