Editorial Policy
At Daily Updates (dailyupdates.net.ng), we take credibility seriously. This Editorial Policy explains how we approach reporting, how we handle sources, how we correct mistakes, and how we separate editorial content from advertising. Our goal is simple: publish news and information in a way that readers can trust.
We believe trust is earned over time. That means we care about accuracy, clarity, fairness, and transparency. We also understand that news moves fast and stories can change. When they do, we aim to update responsibly.
1. Our Editorial Mission
Daily Updates exists to keep readers informed with timely news, trending stories, and public-interest updates. We cover topics that affect everyday life: local updates, national news, business, sports, entertainment, technology, health, science, and human-interest stories.
Our mission is not to shock or manipulate readers. We prioritize usefulness. That means: accurate information, readable headlines, clear writing, and context that helps readers understand what is happening.
2. Editorial Independence
Editorial decisions are made to serve readers, not to serve private interests. If we publish sponsored content or paid promotions, we aim to label them clearly so readers can distinguish them from editorial reporting.
We do not allow advertisers to control our editorial opinion or force us to publish false claims. If a sponsored request conflicts with public safety or contains deceptive messaging, we may decline it.
3. Accuracy and Verification
We aim to verify facts before publishing. Verification can include checking credible reporting, official statements, public records, direct quotes, timestamps, and multiple independent sources. We treat accuracy as a priority—especially for:
- Breaking news that may affect public safety
- Claims involving individuals, companies, or public officials
- Health, legal, finance, and security-related information
- Numbers, dates, names, and locations
When a story is developing and facts may still change, we may use careful language (for example: “reportedly,” “according to,” or “officials said”) and we may update the story as more verified information becomes available.
4. Sources and Attribution
We use sources to improve accuracy and provide context. Sources can include:
- Official announcements from government agencies and institutions
- Statements from verified public figures or organizations
- Court documents and public records
- Press releases (clearly treated as promotional unless independently verified)
- Credible reporting from established media outlets
- Interviews and direct communications (where applicable)
If a story includes information originally reported elsewhere, we aim to provide proper credit and references where appropriate. We do not support plagiarism. We also do not encourage copying full articles from other publishers. When we reference third-party reporting, we aim to add value: clarity, context, timeline, and key points.
5. Headlines, Thumbnails, and Presentation
Headlines matter because they shape how people understand a story. We aim to write headlines that reflect the actual story content and avoid misleading framing. We do not want readers to click something and feel tricked.
We also aim to avoid exaggerated wording that increases tension without real value. If a headline needs to be updated for accuracy, we may revise it to match confirmed facts.
6. Corrections, Clarifications, and Updates
Mistakes can happen. When they do, we treat them seriously. We support a clear corrections process so readers can trust that errors will not be ignored.
6.1 Corrections
A correction is a change made to fix a factual error (for example: wrong name, wrong date, wrong figure, wrong location). If we confirm an error, we correct it as soon as possible.
6.2 Clarifications
A clarification is used when content is technically accurate but could be misunderstood. We may clarify wording to make meaning clearer without changing the core facts.
6.3 Updates
News evolves. Updates are normal when new verified information becomes available. For example, a developing story may start with early reports and then be updated with official confirmation. We may update content to reflect new facts, official statements, or verified outcomes.
6.4 How to Request a Correction
If you believe we have published incorrect information, please contact us and include:
- The exact URL of the page
- The specific text you believe is incorrect (copy/paste it)
- What you believe the correct information is
- Supporting evidence (links, documents, screenshots)
Send correction requests to: editorial@dailyupdates.net.ng
7. Right of Reply
If an article includes serious allegations or reputational impact, we aim to provide a fair opportunity for response when it is reasonable and practical. If you are referenced in a story and you believe context is missing, you may contact us with your statement and supporting details.
We may publish or update the story with verified responses, clarifications, or additional context where appropriate.
8. Sensitive Topics and Harm Prevention
Some topics require extra care: accidents, violence, mental health, personal tragedies, minors, sexual abuse, and graphic events. We aim to report responsibly and avoid unnecessary graphic details or harmful exposure.
We also avoid publishing private personal information that could endanger individuals (for example: addresses, private phone numbers, or identity details of minors).
9. Sponsored Content and Advertising Standards
Advertising helps fund the site. However, ads and sponsored content must not compromise editorial integrity. If we publish sponsored content, we aim to label it clearly as “Sponsored” or “Promoted.”
We may reject sponsored content that:
- Contains misleading claims or scam-like promises
- Promotes illegal activity
- Encourages hate, harassment, or discrimination
- Violates public safety or ethical standards
Advertisements may be served by third-party networks (including Google). We do not personally select every ad shown and we do not guarantee advertiser claims. If you see an inappropriate ad, contact us with details and a screenshot if possible.
10. User Comments and Community Behavior
If comments or user features are enabled, users are expected to behave respectfully. We may remove comments that include:
- Threats, harassment, or hate speech
- Spam, scams, or malicious links
- Impersonation or doxxing
- Illegal content
- Coordinated abuse
We reserve the right to limit or disable comments on specific topics for safety reasons.
11. Content Removal and Legal Requests
We respect lawful requests and legitimate rights claims. If you believe content should be removed due to copyright, privacy, or other legal concerns, please visit our Take Down Requests page and submit a complete request.
We may remove or revise content after review when it is appropriate to do so. We may also decline requests that are false, abusive, or unsupported.
