Police detain alleged assailants of El-convoy Rufai’s and launch an investigation.

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), often known as the Shia movement, is thought to be responsible for the alleged attacks on the convoy of Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

According to a statement from the Command’s spokesman, DSP Mohammed Jalige, armed thugs believed to be IMN members attacked law-abiding citizens and blocked drivers from using the Bakin Ruwa axis of the Rigasa, Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway. The security personnel attached to the Governor’s convoy were then tasked with clearing the area.

He said that on Thursday at around 3 p.m. when the governor of Kaduna state’s convoy arrived at the location, a big group of hoodlums were found intimidating innocent bystanders.

He claimed that the thugs opened fire with firearms or stones as soon as they spotted the convoy, striking many private vehicles as well as several that were part of the convoy.

The security guards dealt with the troublemakers in a professional manner without resorting to physical force, and several of the criminals who were strongly suspected of being IMN members were taken into custody. He added that an inquiry is also continuing.
