President of Equatorial Guinea and Tinubu Sign Gas Pipeline Agreement
On Wednesday night in Malabo, Presidents Bola Tinubu and Teodoro Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea signed a deal on the Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project, reaffirming their collaboration for shared growth.
The agreement addressed broad principles, ownership of the gas pipeline, establishment and operation of the pipeline, and legislative and regulatory measures pertaining to it.
During his speech at the function, President Tinubu—who is now on a three-day official visit to Equatorial Guinea—stated that the agreement’s signature will create new avenues for employment and gas development.
The president said that during a private discussion that took place before to the agreement’s signature, the two leaders talked about matters pertaining to the continent’s food security, employment opportunities, and multilateral cooperation.
“Conflicts and their settlement were discussed with reference to Africa. We talked about the many conflict domains and the ways in which we can advance peace.
We discussed the advancement of progress and wealth on our continent as well as peace and stability inside our own nations.
“Just as Europe and America have managed to maintain their identities while resolving their differences, we too must examine issues like insufficient funding, industrialization, R&D initiatives, and educating our populace to overcome obstacles.
“We have to look inward to solve problems ourselves, instead of the crisis and conflicts that we see in the Republic of Congo and others,” the President declared.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA), food security, and security challenges were among the topics of conversation between President Tinubu and the President of Equatorial Guinea, according to the former.
“We’re all aiming high. The President stated, “We have decided within Africa and the African Union that we will collaborate to ensure that the answer to many of our problems in Africa comes from within.”
The President of Equatorial Guinea stated in his speech that the country’s bilateral relations with Nigeria have been fruitful over a long period of time and emphasized the need of strengthening collaboration in all relevant areas.
President Mbasogo affirmed that Equatorial Guinea will collaborate with Nigeria to achieve the goal, saying that Africa’s vision of securing a permanent seat in the UN Security Council is essential to the continent’s growth.
The agreement’s signature, according to Equatorial Guinea’s president, is strategically important for the continent’s development.
The agreement was also signed by Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Simeon Esono, and Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.
At the agreement’s signing were Chief Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation; Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, Minister of Defense; Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior; Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum and Gas; and Dr. Jamila Ibrahim-Biu, Minister of Youth Development.
