Atedo Peterside, the founder of the Anap Foundation, has urged protestors over the unfavorable living circumstances in Nigeria to stop their protests.

President Bola Tinubu addressed the nation on Sunday as a result of the protesters’ continued presence on the streets since Thursday, but the protestors insist they are not going away.

However, Peterside has begged the demonstrators to leave the streets.

“I tip my hat to those of you who have been peacefully protesting since August 1st. You have completely upended Nigeria and destroyed the myth that a large portion of our young people are not engaged in politics or care enough to demand effective leadership. On Sunday, he posted on X, saying, “I implore you to kindly call off the protest now in the name of God.”

“I ask that the protests stop today, Sunday. Protests are intolerable to impoverished Nigerians for longer than a few days. Your point has been made. Your enormous turnout has scared a lot of people. FG does not have hearing loss. This morning, the President has given a speech. It’s possible that the legislators have also heard you. Please then re-strategize, regroup, and bring them to order again if they collectively fail to drastically decrease the cost of government, eliminate unnecessary spending, tighten their own belts, or set an example. He uttered, “God bless you all.

Following the protests, Tinubu’s speech was criticized by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for failing to address the demands of the demonstrators.

The party’s spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, stated in a statement on Sunday that “the PDP asserts that the speech by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the ongoing protests in the country clearly confirms the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration’s insensitivity towards Nigerians and the very precarious situation in the country.”

The party said, “Our Party is appalled that the speech failed to offer any concrete measure to address the excruciating hardship in the country, even though it took President Tinubu the PDP’s prodding to speak to the nation.”
