Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was taken into custody by Dominican police on allegations of domestic abuse.

Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, an American, was taken into custody in the Dominican Republic.

The Associated Press reports that Tekashi, 27, was taken into custody by Santo Domingo authorities on Wednesday, January 18, on suspicion of domestic abuse.

According to reports, the recording artist—real name: Daniel Hernández—is being kept in jail in the capital of the Dominican Republic and is expected to appear in court on Thursday. At the hearing, a judge will determine whether to keep Tekashi 6ix9ine incarcerated or release him on bond while investigators conduct their work, according to the AP.

The rapper has a history of frequent run-ins with the law.

He was previously detained in October at a hotel by the sea in the Dominican Republic on suspicion of beating a nearby music producer.

At the producer’s studio, Hernández had been recording with his companion, Yailín la Más Viral, a rapper from the Dominican Republic.

Hernández had also been charged in the United States for operating a violent group as a “personal hit squad,” but he was spared jail time after testifying against the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, an East Coast gang. During the racketeering and guns case, a judge at the time declared him to be a likely danger to the community and kept him in jail without the ability to post bail.
