Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap (100g), manufactured in Germany, batch number 81832M 08, is being recalled by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.

According to a statement posted on its X account, a chemical impurity was the cause of the recall.

According to NAFDAC, the product’s inclusion of butylphenyl methylpropional, often known as liual, a chemical linked to major health hazards, violates the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

According to the government, BMHCA is prohibited from being used in cosmetic goods since it may have negative effects on the health of unborn children and the reproductive system.

It also mentioned how the chemical has been connected to skin sensitization, which can cause allergic reactions in certain people.

“The public is being notified by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) about the recall of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap (100g), manufactured in Germany, batch number 81832M 08, because of a chemical impurity,” the notification stated.

Because it contains butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA), which is illegal due to its risks of reproductive harm, danger to unborn infants, and propensity to cause skin hypersensitivity, the product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation. Several EU regulatory bodies have already outlawed its marketing.

Aside from Derma Spa Goodness, Men Care, Men Care+ Sensitive Shield, Natural Touch, Nourishing Body Care Light Hydro, Pampering Body Lotion, Go Fresh, Talco con Crema, Go fresh Pera, Extra Fresh, Goodness3 Skincare Ritual, invisible dry antiperspirant spray + Go Fresh Revitalize nourishing shower gel, Caring hand wash, and invisible dry, there are other Dove cosmetic products that have been recalled or banned in other countries regarding the presence of BMHCA.

It stated that the soaps are not included in its database.

In order to prevent the importation, distribution, sale, and use of the items, NAFDAC advised the public to exercise caution and vigilance along the supply chain.

“Importing soaps into Nigeria is forbidden by the restricted and import prohibition list,” it stated. Beyond the import limitations, Nigerian imports of soaps and cosmetics are not eligible for foreign exchange.

Furthermore, the NAFDAC database does not contain these products. It is recommended that importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers show prudence and attentiveness along the supply chain in order to refrain from importing, distributing, selling, or utilizing the aforementioned products. Anyone in the public who has the product should give it up and turn it in to the closest NAFDAC office. They should also stop selling or using it.

Health professionals were also asked by NAFDAC to notify its closest office of any adverse events related to the usage of regulated products.

“Healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report adverse events experienced with the use of regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office, via [email protected], and/or via the Med-safety application, which can be downloaded from the Android and iOS stores,” the statement continued.
