Terrorism Funding: British Rejects NPF Inquiry Invitation
According to the Nigeria Police Force, British national Andrew Wynn, who was put on the wanted list due to suspected sponsorship of terrorism and subversive activities, has declined to come in for interrogation.
Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the British man had been invited by the police multiple times to respond to questions regarding the accusations made against him, but he had declined the invitations during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
Adejobi went on to say that Wynn left the nation to avoid being arrested after declining many invites.
This comes after Wynn declared on Monday that he would be more than willing to be interviewed.
The British man, who denied any wrongdoing, stated he is not on the run and is more than willing to speak with the Nigerian authorities in an exclusive interview with Channels Television on Monday.
“I have been traveling to Nigeria for 25 years; I am not aware that I am a fugitive or that I am evading the law. Over the course of my seven years as the owner of a bookshop at the NLC offices in the heart of Abuja, the security forces have, of course, shown no interest in me.
“My name on my passport is Andrew Wynne with a nickname, and I only have one nationality.” I would be more than willing to speak with the police, have a discussion on Zoom or WhatsApp, or travel to London to meet with representatives of the Nigerian High Commission.
I believe it’s more than sufficient if they want to strike up a conversation, Wynne added.
“My spouse has been wrongly charged.”
The British man’s Nigerian wife also spoke exclusively to Channels Television, claiming that her husband is the victim of unjust accusations.
The wife said that her husband’s torture had nothing to do with the police’s accusations that he had overthrown the government.
She claimed a Nigerian was owed her husband money and accused him of trying to get Wynne removed from the nation so he wouldn’t have to pay the bill.
“We were friends for eight years before getting married last year, making a total of nine years that we had spent together. My spouse has never been a terrorist; he is being wrongfully accused. She stated, “He is being implicated because Mr. Olumide owes him money and isn’t willing to pay him.
“The case is still pending in court. He is in the UK since he entered the nation and had to leave when his visa expired. He is so simply using all the intimidation tactics at his disposal to force him to leave. He is expected to return maybe around September twenty-something if not for all of these.
Cells that sleep
Speaking to reporters in Abuja earlier on Monday, Force spokeswoman Muyiwa Adejobi charged that the British national was constructing a network of sleeper cells with the intention of upending the administration and causing anarchy.
“A thorough investigation into the actions of foreign nationals and subversive elements attempting to overthrow Nigeria’s democratically elected government by arranging violence throughout the nation and implementing an unconstitutional regime change has been initiated,” he declared.
Nine suspects who received significant financial support from external sources to destabilize the nation have been captured after extensive intelligence collection and cooperation with other security organizations.
According to preliminary findings, they may have planned and supported violent protests, spread false information, and engaged in other criminal acts in order to incite chaos and provide cover for their illegal scheme to topple the administration that was duly elected.
“Investigations have revealed the identity of a foreign mercenary, British national Andrew Wynne (also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey), who constructed a network of sleeper cells with the intention of overthrowing the government and bringing about anarchy in the country.
In order to conceal his subversive actions, he founded “STARS of Nations Schools” and leased premises in Labour House, Abuja, for a “Iva Valley Bookshop.”
According to Adejobi, Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich, and Obiyan, his local coordinator, had left the nation.
“Andrew Wynne has left the country since the investigations began,” he declared. As a result, he and one of his local coordinators, Lucky Ehis Obiyan, have been proclaimed wanted, and as part of this inquiry, a global search has been launched for them.
The Force PRO added that Wynne allegedly supplied the funding and operational direction needed to overthrow the nation’s elected government.
