Tinubu Congratulates Erdogan on His Reelection as President of Turkey

Recep Tayyip Erdoan, the president of Turkey, has received congratulations from President Bola Tinubu on his reelection.

His remarkable triumph in the second round of voting gave him a two-decade mandate that would last until 2028.

Erdogan’s electoral success, which Tinubu, the newly-elected president of Nigeria, congratulated him on in a Twitter message, was hailed as “unmistakable proof that he retains the full trust and confidence of the Turkish people.”

“I wish him a successful tenure and look forward to a collaborative relationship between our nations,” concluded Tinubu.

On his route to winning his most difficult election, the 69-year-old survived Turkey’s greatest economic crisis in a generation and the most potent opposition alliance to ever oppose his Islamic-rooted party.

As Turkey’s most significant leader in modern history led a sea of fans in jubilant song outside his presidential palace in Ankara, the city’s streets erupted in car-honking jubilation and tributes flowed in from all over the world.

Erdogan urged the cheering and flag-waving audience to unite in “unity and solidarity.” “With all of our heart, we demand this.”

Results that were nearly finalized showed that Erdogan defeated Kemal Kilicdaroglu of the secular opposition by a margin of four percentage points.
