Bello Matawalle, the governor of Zamfara State, says people may finally breathe a sigh of relief after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) complied with the Supreme Court’s decision certifying the old naira notes. He adds additional money is anticipated to enter circulation.

The apex bank ordered money deposit banks to accept and disburse old naira notes up until December 31 in accordance with the ruling of the supreme court.

In a prompt reply, Governor Matawalle referred to the CBN’s instruction as a win for Nigerians.

According to a statement from his spokesperson, Zailani Bappa, the governor reiterated that the lawsuit brought by some state governments against the naira redesign strategy is for the benefit of the micro-economy of the nation and the welfare of the typical Nigerian.

All Nigerians may now breathe a sigh of relief about the situation, he said. “We anticipate more currency to be in circulation to soothe our pains, while those who were unable to swap their old naira notes with the rare new notes would no longer lose their hard-earned money,” he added.

“Those who said we went to court to advance the presidential elections, even as Nigerians complained about the implementation of the policy, are now shown to be false, as we did not give up until we were successful in pursuing our demand to its logical conclusion,”

He also applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for separating his administration from any effort to disregard the Supreme Court’s ruling on this matter, thinking that this stance had significantly aided the people in winning.

Matawalle urges the populace to fully acknowledge the worth of the old naira notes until December 31 and is confident that all banks would fully comply.
