We Will Apologize To All Police Brutality Victims, Peter Obi Makes a Promise

If the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is elected on February 25, his government will apologize to all victims of police brutality.

“We will apologize to all those who have been victims of police brutality,” Obi told his thronging supporters on Saturday at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Onikan, during his campaign rally in Lagos State.

“We will apologize to all those who have suffered at the hands of the government. We will make certain that this does not happen again. Nigeria is going to be a peaceful country.”

He claims that the country’s security forces will “no longer” be used for harassment.

“Police will not harass anyone; they will be under your supervision because we will train those (sic) on how to do policing,” he promised.

“The police will be a friend, not an enemy,” Obi said, adding that law enforcement agencies would be better equipped and more trained personnel would be hired. They will be in charge of policing. We will not have all of these problems.”

The 61-year-old candidate promised to uphold law and order while prioritizing the country’s security and unity.

He also promised voters that the press would be free to “criticise what we’re doing.”

Obi’s promise comes barely two years after the international attention-grabbing October 2020 protests. Thousands of Nigerians across the country responded to the #EndSARS call to action by demanding extensive police reforms.

‘Nigerians Will Rejoice Over Their Passports’
The LP candidate slammed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for poor economic management, claiming that millions of Nigerians have fallen below the poverty line since the party took power in 2015.

He accused the current administration of causing poverty, unemployment, university lecturers’ strikes, and “one form of suffering or another.”

Obi promised to increase the nation’s reserves through agriculture and currency stability.

“No Nigerian will be ethnocentric, but a Nigerian will celebrate their passport,” he said.

If elected, the former Anambra State governor said his administration would work hard to lift people out of poverty and shift Nigeria from consumption to production.

“Lagos will continue to be a center of excellence and finance,” he stated. “Nigeria has everything it needs to be a great country.”

According to him, an Obi administration will create a business-friendly environment, and “our gas will be developed to provide more money than oil.”

He went on to say that his government would encourage young people to start businesses, saying, “Our success will be measurable.”
