Joan Laporta (R) is delighted with Xavi's (L) work as Barcelona head coach

Xavi, a product of La Masia, Barca’s renowned academy, won four Champions League titles and eight LaLiga championships with the Blaugrana throughout his playing career, which took place during one of the most prosperous eras in the club’s history.

However, recent financial issues have dogged Barca and prevented them from matching the heydays under Pep Guardiola.

After Ronald Koeman was fired in 2021, Xavi took over as head coach of Barcelona. Despite an early Champions League exit, the former midfielder guided the side to the top of LaLiga at the start of the World Cup break.

Laporta is inspired by the 42-year-emphasis old’s on the need to bring home trophies at Camp Nou this year.

“I am very fortunate to have the best coach in the world because Xavi is not just a man with extensive knowledge of football but also a man who is always very interesting to listen to with his logic. He is also a club man and has a strong sense of allegiance to the club.

“We share moments and a lot of what is being done together, and I feel really accompanied and encouraged by Xavi and all of his colleagues.

“They are people in whom we all have full confidence in their knowledge but also in their sense of the club, which is very important, very important.”

Sergio Busquets, Xavi’s old midfield partner, is still on the Camp Nou roster even though his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

Inter Miami, a team interested in Lionel Messi, has been mentioned as a possible destination for the newly retired Spain international, but Laporta claims Barcelona wants to keep him.

The president continued, “Xavi counts on [Busquets] and wants him to keep playing.” “In other words, if at all feasible, it is what we desire,” he continues.

“There are reports now in the winter market that he had offers from MLS and others.

“Obviously, whatever Busquets decides is well decided, and the club will always be with him with what he needs and helping with what he needs. When the contract ends, then it will end.

“I don’t know if he will decide this winter or continue until the end of the season. We want him to continue until the end of the season because Xavi has let me know [he still wants him].

“Busquets is also one of those that Barca is his home.”
