Your Vote Matters in the 2023 Elections, Blinken Tells Nigerian People

Nigerians, according to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, have a chance to have their say in the election on February 25.

The U.S. Embassy & Consulate in Nigeria issued a video message from Blinken on Wednesday in which he stated that Nigerians had the opportunity to express their opinions and shape the country’s destiny.

The short video, which included Blinken and other senior administration officials discussing the elections, was uploaded in the hope that Nigerians would realize that the United States supports them as they go to the polls, the Consulate stated.

Nonetheless, Blinken emphasized that America strongly supports free, fair, and peaceful elections as guaranteed in the constitution, which is one that reflects the will of the people. The United States does not promote any specific candidate for office.

The US Secretary of State highlighted that “your vote matters, this election matters, not only to Nigerians, but to the rest of the world.”

The United States of America is “the friend and partner of the Nigerian people,” he continued.

One of the individuals in the film, U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield, stated that free and fair elections in Nigeria will “help create a freer and fairer world for everyone.”

Ms. Thomas-Greenfield went on to say that America has an interest in Nigeria’s development and that Nigerians’ success is crucial for the future of democracy in both the United States and Nigeria.

Samantha Powers, a USAID Administrator who appeared in the film as well, likewise asked Nigerians to visit INECNigeria.org to get ready for the election.

Ms. Powers continued by saying that because every voter matters, Nigerians must be ready to cast their ballots.
