Vieira hails Ozoh after EPL debut
David Ozoh’s performance in his Premier League debut has been lauded by Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira, who also noted that the young player earned his chance in their 0-0 draw with Newcastle.
Vieira praised the 17-year-old Academy graduate who entered the game in the second half and became Palace’s youngest-ever midfielder in the Premier League.
In the 90th minute at Selhurst Park, the midfielder of Nigerian descent who had signed a professional deal with the Magpies in August 2022 came in to replace Odsonne Edouard.
The adolescent broke the record set by retired Nigerian-born footballer George Ndah, who was 17 years, 11 months, and five days old when he took the field against Liverpool in November 1992.
“It was wise of him to participate. The previous two weeks, he trained with the starting lineup. He spent time with us even last year, according to Vieira, who was quoted by Tribal football.
“It was incredibly encouraging to see how he’s progressing week after week. He’s someone who will participate in training and be around the first team because he possesses the skills necessary to play in the Premier League.
He is a capable player who keeps his composure when the ball is in play. He’s making some excellent decisions when he has the ball, and because of his physical talent and ability to compete at that level, he can.
“At this point, it’s critical to continue working with him and support his proper development.”
