FG Will Reverse Technical and Scientific College Merger
The federal government has declared its intention to unbundle the country’s federal technical colleges and science schools by reviewing their merger.
At a one-day stakeholders’ meeting on the challenges and issues affecting the nation’s technical colleges, Prof. Tahir Mamman, the minister of education, revealed this.
Mamman voiced dissatisfaction with the combination of technical institutions and science colleges, claiming that this lessened the benefits of developing technical colleges across the nation.
He clarified that students interested in technical education should be the only ones admitted to technical colleges.
The minister emphasized that since it was obviously a mistake to integrate the two schools, students who wish to pursue science programs should go to ordinary universities and complete their studies there.
Mamman expressed her displeasure at the low student enrollment in technical colleges, pointing out that these institutions were supposed to impart talents that would revolutionize the nation.
