Police apprehend a man who defrauded a victim of N17 million by claiming the name of the Nasarawa Governor.
Shuaibu Isiaka, 58, has been taken into custody by the Nasarawa State Police Command on charges of defrauding a member of the public by fabricating a relationship to the State Governor.
In a statement released on Sunday, August 11, the command spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said that the suspect had purportedly taken N17 million from the victim while pretending to be offering a contract from the Nasarawa State Government.
The statement said, “One Shuaibu Isiaka AKA Ziko ‘M’ 58yrs of Tudun Gwandara, Lafia has been arrested by police operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Nasarawa State Police command for name-dropping the Executive Governor of Nasarawa state and defrauding an unsuspecting member of the public to the tune of Seventeen Million (#17,000,000) Naira.”
“A petition against the suspect, who deceitfully acquired money from the victim on the pretense of being offered a contract by the Nasarawa state government, resulted to the suspect’s arrest.
“During questioning, the suspect admitted to committing the crime, but he clarified that the money taken from the victim was actually Fourteen million, not Seventeen million as claimed.
“CP Umar Shehu Nadada, the Commissioner of Police, has directed a comprehensive inquiry into the case and given the investigators the mandate to pursue any individual discovered to have a connection to the commission of the offense, regardless of their position.
“Thereafter, in order to avoid falling for their antics, he urged the public to be cautious of smooth-criminals who have perfected the act of talking about famous people to impress.”
