Bode George Explains Lack of Support for Atiku’s 2023 Presidential Bid

Prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member and Board of Trustees representative, Bode George, has addressed rumors surrounding his decision not to support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign. Speaking on a TVC political program, George refuted claims that his stance was due to regional differences.

George, who recently declined a position on the PDP National Disciplinary Committee, clarified that his withdrawal of support was due to Abubakar’s alleged role in causing divisions within the party during the election campaign.

“When Buhari contested against Atiku, I was fully supportive because the circumstances favored him at the time. But in the 2023 election, the situation changed,” George explained. He emphasized that his decision was not influenced by tribalism, noting that his close relationships with individuals from various ethnic backgrounds, including Fulani, demonstrate his commitment to unity.

According to George, the decision to oppose Abubakar’s candidacy stemmed from the belief that the presidency should rotate between the North and South, especially after President Buhari, a Northerner, had served two terms. He criticized the manipulation of the party’s internal processes, which he said ultimately led to a divided PDP and a disappointing electoral outcome.

George also called on party members to put aside personal ambitions and focus on rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
