39 Online Scammers Are Imprisoned By A Court In Oyo

Judges O.S. Adeyemi, Bayo Taiwo, and Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court, sitting in Ibadan, have found 39 internet fraudsters guilty and sentenced them, according to the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC).

Each of them faced a single case of prosecution that included allegations of impersonation, cheating, possession of forged documents, and obtaining information under false pretenses.

Fasanya Abdulqudus Gbolahan, Nkiri Oluchukwu Destiny, Fakoya Tobi Samuel, Owolabi Qudus Damilare, Isiaka Olajide Adebayo, Olawoyin Wasiu Olasunkanmi, Olawale Owolabi Abideen, Olayiwola Tunde Waheed, Kehinde Pelumi Abdulrauf, Okunlola Taoreed Abidoun, Okunlola Dolapo Mujeeb, Ademeso Raphael Olamide, Lawal Olajuwon Ridwan, Femi Dogo Oluremi, Ehinmowo Jeremiah Damilola, Joseph Isaac Justice, Enitan Tolulope John, Kolawole Toluwani Josaiah, Alo Ayokunnumi Emmanuel, Adetola Opeyemi Idris, and Joshua Imole Shiyanbola are the convicts.

Idowu Ezekiel David, Salau Abeeb Ayomide, and Adeyemi are the others. Paul Nneji Uche, Ayomiposi Clement Akinyimika, Abdullahi Mustapha Adisa, Ajetunmobi Azeez Olashile, Oluwaseun Adeyeye Adeniran, Ogunyemi Gbolahan Opemiposi, Olabanjo Oluwafemi Olatunbosun, Ogoayo Alabi Sijuola, Akanji Timothy Bidoun, Quadri Salami Oyindamola, Samuel Adeyemi Oluwatobi, Ogunyemi Gbolahan Opemiposi, Olabanjo Oluwafemi Olatunbosun, Paul Nneji Uche, Ayomiposi Clement Akinyimika, Abdullahi Mustapha Adisa, Ajetunmobi Azeez Olashile, and Onah Austine Ayomide.

“That on or about March 28, 2024, at Ibadan, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, you, Onah Austine Ayomide ‘M’ fraudulently impersonated by representing yourself as a white woman by the name of Linda Mary from United States of America, through your Facebook account (Linda Mary) to one Clifton Deininger, from United States of America,” states the charge against Austine Ayomide, with the intention of benefiting yourself and committing a personation offense in violation of Oyo State’s 2000 Criminal Code Law Cap 38 Section 484.

After the charges were read to them, they all entered a “guilty” plea. Prosecution then went over the case facts, presented evidence that implicated them, and begged the judge to find them guilty and sentence them appropriately.

Austin Ayomide was found guilty by Justice Adeyemi and given a sentence of one year of community service or N200,000 in fines.

While Abeeb Ayomide, Adeleke, Babatunde, Biodun, Oyindamola, Oluwatobi, Olatunbosun, Uche, Akinyimika, Adisa, Olashile, and Adeniran received six months of community service and were required to pay N50,000 each in addition to their sentences, Abeeb Ayomide received a hefty N500,000 fine. Tunde was given a one-month jail sentence and a N250,000 fine.

He threatened to punish Sijuola N100,000 or require her to perform one month of community service.

Olatunde and Opemiposi received a three-month community service assignment without the possibility of paying a fine.

Judge Taiwo, for his part, found Taoreed Abidoun guilty and sentenced him to three months in prison; Mujeeb received a sentence of four months in prison; Olasunkanmi and Abideen received sentences of six months community service apiece, and they were also required to pay a fine of N150,000 each on top of their respective sentences.

Gbolahan, Damilare, Adebayo, and Abdulrauf were found guilty and given sentences of five months community service apiece. Abdulrauf was also given the option to pay a fine of N100,000.

Destiny received two months of community service, Waheed and Samuel received four months, and each received a fine of N100,000.

Olamide, Oluremi, Damilola, Justice, Josaiah, Emmanuel, and Shiyanbola were found guilty and sentenced by Justice Akintola to one year in prison each, or to pay a fine of N30,000, N50,000, N75,000, N75,000, N50,000, N120,000, and N100,000, respectively.

Justice forfeited a black Toyota Corolla with registration number FST–607–GN, Damilola forfeited a green Nissan Micra with registration number LSD–464–GU and chassis number SJNFBAK11U3001751, and Emmanuel forfeited a black Lexus IS 250 with registration number MUS–158–JHS.

Idris and David were found guilty by Justice Akintola, who also sentenced them to six months of community work each or N60,000 and N150,000 in fines.

John and Ridwan were each sentenced to three months of community work or N25,000 and N30,000 in fines.

All items found on the criminals were forfeited to the federal government. When they were apprehended in a sting operation for engaging in fraudulent online activity, all of the prisoners’ journeys to prison started.
