Iwobi contract negotiations are hampered by Everton’s dismal performance.
Iwobi has been one of the few positives for the Toffees this season, but has been stalling over signing a new long-term deal with the club despite ongoing talks between both parties.
The 26-year-current old’s deal with the Toffees, who are currently ranked 19th in the Premier League, is set to expire in 2024.
The Merseysiders fired manager Frank Lampard on Monday after they had only won one of their previous 14 games.
Iwobi, who has produced six assists and scored once for the Toffees, would consider the club’s future in the premier league before deciding on his long-term future, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.
Due to the club’s difficulties, he stated, “it’s going to be a difficult decision for him to make at this time.”
But I don’t believe he will make renewing his contract with the club a top priority right now.
After his recent performances and the humbling losses to Brighton and West Ham, Iwobi’s future has been under discussion among the Merseysiders supporters.
Everton fans have urged the club’s upper management to put a stop to contract talks with the Nigerian.
@CharlieW4780, an Everton fan, wrote: “I’d be delaying the new deal for Iwobi. As anticipated, his level has decreased.
Additionally, @toffeetonia stated, “The Iwobi contract should be put on hold following this performance. Please don’t give him another five years; he is dreadful.
Iwobi’s contract expires in 2024, therefore I don’t see why we’re rushing to offer him a new one based on a few strong months, remarked another Twitter user, @WAJG 96. He has been acting lately as though he had recently agreed to a big new long-term contract. He returned so that he wouldn’t be evaluated again.
“No new agreements till the completion of the current campaign. Increasing Gordon or Iwobi’s cannot be justified, especially in light of the latter’s recent performances. Since he scored against Man United, things have only gotten worse for him and the team, according to @carterdan23.
Iwobi has been performing poorly since since he learned he was signing a new contract, continued @efcrj. He’s a lousy player again, so he doesn’t deserve to make $100,000 every week.
