Abia Govt orders suspension of sand dredging in Osisioma River

The Commissioner for Environment, Abia State, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna  has ordered contiguous suspension of soil dredging activities astatine the Umuadele River, Okpulo Umuobo,  Osisioma section authorities area.

According to the State government, the suspension was successful effect to concerns of biology degradation and different allegations of amerciable operations successful the River.

The Commissioner, who stormed the soil dredging tract during an unscheduled authoritative visit, directed each the soil dredgers, tipper operators and loaders astatine the tract to study to the Ministry of Environment for due verification of their operational presumption and documentation.

He condemned the expanding complaint of amerciable dredging activities successful the area, expressing interest that the country has been severely degraded and devastated owed to unregulated ungraded mining and soil dredging that had taken spot for much than  a decade.
