After Lionel Messi took home FIFA’s The Best trophy, Cristiano Ronaldo laments the “losing credibility” of football’s individual honors.
After Lionel Messi’s contentious FIFA victory, football legend Cristiano Ronaldo claimed that individual accolades in the sport were becoming less credible.
Last week, Lionel Messi took home FIFA’s The Best award, surprising many by defeating Erling Haaland, the winner of the Triple Crown. The World Cup victory of the Argentine superstar also earned him the Ballon d’Or, although FIFA’s award was given out over a different time frame.
After taking home three Globe Soccer Awards honors, Ronaldo made hints that his bitter rival Messi wasn’t a worthy winner.
“I feel like these awards are becoming less credible,” he stated. The entire season needs to be examined. It’s not that Mbappe, Haaland, or Messi didn’t deserve it. I genuinely don’t think these awards exist anymore.
