An ordered report from Joe Biden’s experience as Vice President was found in a confidential office space.

Several classified documents from US President Joe Biden’s time as vice president were discovered in a private office last fall, according to Biden’s lawyers.

Biden’s lawyers claim they discovered the government materials in November while closing down the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington, DC, which Biden used as part of his relationship with the University of Pennsylvania, where he was an honorary professor from 2017 to 2019.

A CNN report on Monday night, January 9, stated that fewer than a dozen classified documents were discovered at Biden’s office. It is unclear what the documents are about or why they were taken to Biden’s private office, as federal officeholders are required by law to turn over official documents and classified records when their government service is completed.

“The White House is cooperating with the National Archives and the Department of Justice regarding the discovery of what appear to be Obama-Biden Administration records, including a small number of documents with classified markings,” said Richard Sauber, President Biden’s special counsel, in a statement Monday night.

“The documents were discovered while the President’s personal attorneys were packing files housed in a locked closet in preparation for the President’s departure from the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C. From mid-2017 until the start of the 2020 campaign, the President used this space on a regular basis. The White House Counsel’s Office notified the National Archives on the day of the discovery, November 2, 2022. The materials were delivered to the Archives the following morning.”

“These documents were discovered by the President’s attorneys,” Sauber added. “The documents were not the subject of any previous request or inquiry by the Archives. Since that discovery, the President’s personal attorneys have worked with the Archives and the Department of Justice to ensure that any Obama-Biden Administration records are properly in the Archives’ possession.”

According to CNN, US Attorney General Merrick Garland has asked the US Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois to investigate the matter, and congressional Republicans planning impeachment proceedings against Biden are also taking notice.

Some of the classified materials included top-secret files labeled “sensitive compartmented information,” or SCI, which is used for highly sensitive information obtained from intelligence sources.

Following the discovery, Biden’s lawyers immediately contacted the National Archives and Records Administration, which began investigating the matter, according to the source. According to the source, Biden’s team collaborated with NARA, which later came to view the situation as a mistake due to a lack of document safeguards.

The materials were discovered while special counsel Jack Smith is investigating former President Donald Trump for possibly mishandling classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. As part of their investigation, federal investigators have recovered at least 325 classified documents from Trump.

Republicans are already raising concerns about the discovery.

Kevin McCarthy, the new House Speaker, did not say whether the new Republican Congress should investigate Biden, but he did say Trump’s retention of classified documents was motivated by politics.

“I just think it goes to show that what they tried to do to President Trump was overplayed,” McCarthy said.

“They’ve been around even longer,” McCarthy said of Biden’s team. “President Trump had never been in office before and had just left when he came out. Here’s a man who has spent the last 40 years in office.”

McCarthy continued, “It just shows that they were trying to be political with President Trump.”

Trump, who has already declared his candidacy for president in 2024, capitalized on the news that classified records had been discovered in Biden’s private office.

“When is the FBI going to raid Joe Biden’s many homes, possibly even the White House?” Trump wrote on Truth Social. These documents were not declassified.”
