Basketball Player Nnaji from Nigeria Was Abusive To Racists, Barcelona Condemns

Barcelona on Wednesday denounced the racial taunts directed at Nigerian basketball player James Nnaji during their triumph over archrival Real Madrid in the Spanish basketball championship final.

The event occurs as Spanish sport struggles to deal with the widespread outcry brought on by racism directed towards Vinicius Jr., a Brazilian football star for Real.

James Nnaji, a first-team basketball player, received racial epithets before game three of the championship, according to a statement from FC Barcelona.

The club anticipates a resolute ACB (Spanish basketball league) response to any verbal or racist taunts.

Images of the FC Barcelona bus pulling up to the WiZink center in Madrid, the site of Tuesday’s match, showed some Madrid supporters cursing at the Barcelona players.

Nnaji, according to local media, was subjected to racial epithets.

“I want to discuss what happened with James Nnaji here because I think it’s unfortunate. Vinicius gets a lot of attention, but now it’s up to us to discuss what’s happening, according to Barcelona’s basketball coach Sarunas Jasikevicius.

“It must end right away. We must be very angry about that since it doesn’t align with the ideals of Real Madrid and its followers.

After winning the first two games of the championship, Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 93-82 on Tuesday to earn the club’s 20th Spanish league title.
