Sergio Busquets, a former midfielder for Spain and Barcelona, has been signed by Inter Miami, who made the announcement on Friday. He will join Lionel Messi at the Major League Soccer team.

Messi announced earlier this month that he was relocating to Miami, where he will now be reunited with Busquets, a former teammate from Barcelona.

To announce the player’s arrival, Inter Miami tweeted.

The tweet contained the phrase “Si, Busi” in reference to Busquets’ stage name. In the tweet, Busquets was praised by a number of players, including former Spain coach Vicente del Bosque.

Busquets announced in May that he would leave Barcelona at the end of his contract in the summer.

Before announcing his retirement from the team in December, the 34-year-old played 143 times for Spain.

Busquets has played a key role in many of Barcelona’s victories over the past 15 years, including three Champions League titles and nine victories in the Spanish league.

In an iconic midfield trio with Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez, Busquets served as the pivot. The trio also helped Spain win the 2010 World Cup.

Jorge Mas, the owner of Inter Miami, stated this week that the team anticipated making three to five additional signings to join Messi.

We left a ton of flexibility because we were preparing our roster for Messi’s arrival in ’23, Mas told the Herald.

“We will sign more players during the summer window than people think,” the team said. I can say that we might sign between three and five players.

Busquets is most likely to take up one of the three spots designated for “Designated Players,” high-earning athletes whose salaries are exempt from the salary cap.

Jordi Alba, a left-back who is favored by both Spain and Barcelona, has also been mentioned in connection with Inter Miami.
