Court orders expedited trial in alleged coup plot against Tinubu’s government

A Federal High Court successful Abuja has ordered an expedited proceedings for six radical accused of plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik fixed April 29 and 30, and May 4 and 5 for the commencement of the trial, including the proceeding of the suspects’ bail applications.

At the hearing, Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi told the tribunal the prosecution was acceptable and had witnesses available, taxable to the court’s timetable.

Counsel to the archetypal defendant, Mohammed Ilayepo, said his client’s bail exertion was acceptable to beryllium heard. However, the justice ruled that the proceedings would proceed earlier immoderate bail applications would beryllium considered.

Lawyers for the second, 3rd and sixth defendants raised concerns, stating that they had had constricted clip to hole and that the charges were complex.
