Death Toll From Kaduna Maulud Accident Increases to 40

The death toll from the tragic accident that occurred along Saminaka Road in Kaduna’s Lere Local Government Area has sadly increased to 40, with most of the victims being children. The accident, which took place last Sunday, has left the state of Kaduna in shock and mourning.

Overspeeding and Overcrowding Lead to Tragedy

The fatal accident involved a J5 bus carrying children who were heading to celebrate Eid-el Maulud, an important Islamic festival. Due to overspeeding and overcrowding, the bus lost control and collided with an articulated vehicle, leading to the tragic loss of lives.

Initial Death Toll of 25 Rises to 40

Initially, Kabiru Nadabo, the sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed that 25 people had died from complications related to the accident. Additionally, 48 others were critically injured and admitted to hospitals in Kaduna, Jos, and Kano for emergency medical treatment. Unfortunately, several more victims passed away in the hospital, bringing the total death toll to 40.

Governor Uba Sani Responds

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and pledged to assist the affected families. He has directed the state commissioner of health to ensure that all survivors receive urgent medical care, particularly those still in critical condition.

In his statement, Governor Sani said:
“This is a deeply tragic event for Kaduna State. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims, and we will do everything possible to support those affected by this terrible accident.”
