Ex-Director: The New DSS DG Should Address Mischief Makers’ Viral Video

Following Adeola Ajayi’s appointment as the Department of State Services’ (DSS) new director general, Mike Ejiofor, a former head of the agency, has accused miscreants of uploading a video that went viral.

During his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Wednesday, Ejiofor stated that the viral content should be investigated by the newly appointed director general of the secret police.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Ajayi, who served as the Assistant Director-General of the Service prior to taking on his new position, on Monday to succeed Yusuf Bichi.

Additionally, Mohammed Mohammed was named by the President to take Ahmed Rufai’s place as the National Intelligence Agency’s (NIA) new director general.

In June 2023, Tinubu fired the heads of security agencies and the service chiefs, although he kept Bichi and Rufai. In 2018, Bichi and Rufai were named as the heads of the two intelligence agencies by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Soon after Mohammed and Ajayi’s new assignments, videos of alleged DSS employees celebrating inside the secret police headquarters in Abuja went viral on social media.

Ejiofor stated, “Some of those videos are old videos, as far back as 2018, not new videos,” in his remarks on the viral video. You can spot mischievous people by observing how they use social media.

“However, without acknowledging that the video is novel, people are bound to celebrate new appointments or the outcome of elections; some will even declare that their man is on his way.”

Therefore, it is a natural occurrence, but since the SSS is a professional organization, I believe it is simply the work of troublemakers. Whether they are new or old, whoever must have posted those things is just trying to get into trouble, and I believe the DG will take care of it as well.

Anticipations Awaiting Additionally, Ajayi Ejiofor congratulated the newly appointed DSS chief, stating that there are “many expectations awaiting him as he takes over.” I hope his new position goes well for him.

The former director claimed that Ajayi is an experienced candidate whose appointment by the President is “strategic.”

“He has managed intricate and challenging situations. In the turbulent political climate of Rivers State, for example, he (Ajayi) was able to control the dramatis personae, the speaker stated.

“I anticipate that he will be able to apply this on a national level, bringing individuals together, bringing staff members together, and uniting Nigerians.”
