Following an Al-Ittihad £40 million offer, Fabinho was dropped from the Liverpool roster.

The squad departing for their training camp in Germany without Liverpool midfielder Fabinho after the club received a formal bid for the player.

Al-Ittihad, one of four Saudi Arabian teams owned by the nation’s Public Investment Fund, is rumored to have made a £40 million offer for the Brazil international.

The club held negotiations after learning of a “serious, official” offer, which led to the decision—made after consulting Fabinho—to remove the player from the team that took off on Saturday.

Although there hasn’t been a bid for the captain yet, Jordan Henderson, who has also been linked to a reputed £700,000-per-week offer from Steven Gerrard’s former team Al-Ettifaq, has traveled with the team.

With the seasoned James Milner joining Brighton and the contracts of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita coming to an end, Liverpool’s midfield is getting a makeover this summer.

They were replaced by 24-year-old World Cup champion Alexis Mac Allister from Argentina and 22-year-old Dominik Szoboszlai, the captain of Hungary, for a total of £95 million, and the bid for Fabinho, who turns 30 in October, is seen as another chance to restock.

The team has been searching for a long-term replacement for the Brazilian defensive midfielder, as 18-year-old Stefan Bajcetic needs more experience in the position after only 19 senior matches despite impressing briefly before suffering an injury last season.

Romeo Lavia of Southampton, who is 19 years old, was also being considered, but the impending departure of Fabinho is expected to cause a change in targets and the requirement to find a ready-made successor.

This summer, a number of names have been mentioned, but Moises Caicedo of Brighton, who the Seagulls value at around £100 million, is not one of them.

Due to Henderson’s uncertain future, Liverpool’s desire to add experience is now a top priority.

The 33-year-old, who has won every major title while serving as the club’s captain, was going to get less playing time as a result of their recent additions. However, Liverpool are open to moving him even though he is still a vital member of the locker room.

For a player with two years left on his contract, they would seek a sum closer to £20 million or more.
